Lorna Johnston is an artist living in the Salt Lake Valley. She became interested in oil painting as a young mother and has continued to paint as well as developing a variety of other interests over several decades. She has worked with soft pastels, oil, charcoal, and pencil. Lorna has also enjoyed playing the piano and organ, sewing, and handwork including knitting and creating bead embroidered jewelry, and photography. She and raised six children and taught piano lessons after which she finished college and worked as a teacher of the visually impaired until she returned in 2016.
As an amateur artist, Lorna has painted for the joy of painting, her art with friends and family, working to develop her interest and skills by studying many art books and taking lessons and workshops from several accomplished artists.
Lorna grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her family spent several weeks each summer vacationing in the mountains of Southern Utah. Those treasured experiences contributed to her love of the outdoors and scenes found in nature. She became interested in photography in order to create original art from her own photographs. She was soon shooting family portraits, weddings, grandchildren’s sporting events as well as landscapes. She always seems to return to painting after spending some time on other interests.
Lorna feels that ther is so much to learn and work to do in order to improve and develop as an artist and person.
